FEATURED August 2012

I am a London based artist/ textile designer and illustrator. Fashion illustration is my most prominent work at the moment. I love to create dramatic, bold images with eye catching colour whilst trying to retain a fragile, ethereal quality. I am usually trying to capture or translate something that I find very beautiful, but I hope to produce something more than just a ‘pretty picture’, so I attempt to inject a high dose of emotion into them. For this reason, as an artist, my emotions must be accessible and therefore close to the surface to enable me to utilise them to my advantage, however, as you can imagine this also has a down side in that I can be too vulnerable to negative emotions. As long as I use this to feed my passion and my work I know I will be fine.

The phrase Sunday Brunch conjures up warm, cosy, happy feelings of lazy mornings, friends, good food and laughing. It is a fantastic name for a shop! I don’t have a set favourite designer, but coming from a printed textile background, I would have to say Erdem is high up there. I love the dramatic prints, some of which are like beautiful pieces of fine art. My current favourite dress is probably my most recent purchase, it is a floor length maxi dress, a deep, turquoise blue colour with african-esque embroidery around the neck. It is so classy and elegant yet unique, I love it! It’s from the shop Monsoon.

It is cliché, but everything inspires me; people, music, philosophy, nature, places and other artists are just some of the things that inspire me.
